B-17G 'Snake Hips' of the 327th BS, 92nd BG, evades damage from an attack by Me109Gs, 1944. Not all attacks by fighters bore fruit -  positioning and aiming was often consigned to a couple of seconds as they passed through the formation with a speed differential of  as much as 150 mph, armed with cannon wih a slow rate of fire.
